History of Saree Civilization


The term sari or saree is a strip of unstiched cloth, ranging from four to nine meters that is wrapped over the body in numerous styles. It is one of the most latest / popular dresses of Asia specially in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia etc. Common way to wear saree is to wrap around the waist, with one end drop over baring the midriff.

It is usually worn over a petticoat also said 'lanhanga or lehenga' in the north, with a top called as choli. Choli has short sleeves, low neck and is usually cropped. These are usually more dressy with plenty of latest fashion designs such as embroidery of various styles, mirror works etc. It is mostly weared in the special occasions in Asia such as marriges, parties, unformal get togethers and so on.

ORIGINS OF SAREE
The word saree is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Sati' which means "Strip of cloth". It become 'Sari' in Hindi. If we see the history of indian clothing we come to know that 'Saree' links to the Indus Valley Civilization, which florished during 2800-1800 BCE and in western part of subcontinent.
