Sarees In Pakistan

Its the fact that in Pakistan sarees are less used than Shalwar Kameez as its the national dress of Pakistanis. One perception of lesser use of sarees is its affiliation with the hindus, which is in fact not true. We might say that the reason behind it can be its revealing and exposing outfits which is against the embargo of Islam.

However, as it is worn by the people living before the partition time and had an strong cultural bonding with the people of sub-continent it is still one of the most popular dresses in Pakistani Society. Not just by the hindus of Pakistan but also by some elderly muslims and young youth has come up with the latest fashion designs of sarees and the trend of wearing it is becoming popular n popular on daily basis.

It wont be wrong if we conclude up with the fact that in near future fashion of wearing saris will be re-introduced and would be considered as the status symbol in Pakistan.

History of Saree Civilization

The term sari or saree is a strip of unstiched cloth, ranging from four to nine meters that is wrapped over the body in numerous styles. It is one of the most latest / popular dresses of Asia specially in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia etc. Common way to wear saree is to wrap around the waist, with one end drop over baring the midriff.

It is usually worn over a petticoat also said 'lanhanga or lehenga' in the north, with a top called as choli. Choli has short sleeves, low neck and is usually cropped. These are usually more dressy with plenty of latest fashion designs such as embroidery of various styles, mirror works etc. It is mostly weared in the special occasions in Asia such as marriges, parties, unformal get togethers and so on.

ORIGINS OF SAREE
The word saree is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Sati' which means "Strip of cloth". It become 'Sari' in Hindi. If we see the history of indian clothing we come to know that 'Saree' links to the Indus Valley Civilization, which florished during 2800-1800 BCE and in western part of subcontinent.
